Some folks have said that BlogRush might violate Google AdSense terms of service. It’s important to voice concerns and make sure we’re clear about the repercussions of what we do. I respect my fellow bloggers who are raising doubts about BlogRush, but where it concerns Google AdSense policies violations I think those doubts aren’t justified.

I’ve been using AdSense for years. I know what the terms are. Although the AdSense team wrote a blog post that discusses traffic exchanges, that post does not constitute an addition to the AdSense TOS. And even if you wanted to see it that way, traffic exchange programs only violate the AdSense Program Policies if they involve artificial or automatic clicks or incentives to click. And when they say incentives, they mean incentives for the visitor.

As I’ve been pondering the new BlogRush traffic building service (which I did a first impression review of earlier) over the last few hours I am increasingly thinking that it has potential to help bloggers find new traffic.

The bones are there for it to work - but how can you leverage it to increase your chances of converting for you and squeeze out some extra traffic for your blog. A few ideas (all untested at this stage) come to mind:

1. Optimize Your Titles - there are a number of things that will increase the chances of getting someone to click on a link appearing in someone else’s blog - but the title of your post will be most important. You have around 40 characters only to play with (before the widget cuts off your title) so think carefully about what you’re communicating about your post - particular in the first few words. Usually, when you read about multi-level marketing or pyramid schemes, audiences tend to grab their wallets and run for the nearest exit. However, a startup company is being greeted with open (albeit qualified) arms by bloggers. BlogRush, the recently launched service by online marketing expert John Reese is being touted as a great way for bloggers to attract more traffic. Is it? Depends, is the answer.

The free service works this way: you place a free widget on your blog that displays headlines from similar blogs. So, if you are a dog groomer, you can list the headlines from other dog-grooming sites. Every time someone views your page, you get a credit that can be used to display your site’s headlines elsewhere. Also, it has multi-level advantages, so that someone who views a BlogRush widget on your site signs up for the service, you gain even more credits.

However, the key here is pageviews. If you have 10,000 pageviews per days, the offer is wonderful. Then again, if you are getting 10,000 pageviews, you don’t need help attracting viewers. For small blogs, it doesn’t pay off so well.

John Reese has created a very simple, powerful and explosive new blog link exchange he named ‘BlogRush’.

The process for joining BlogRush is simple and took me only a minute or two to complete.

Once I confirmed my free membership I was given a widget to put on my blog which only took me a couple of minutes as well and I was done. All in all it took me about 5 minutes from the time I started signing up and completion. There was even a video available to help if I didn’t know what I was doing.
